I sit in Acyn’s shop, sipping on an iced latte, waiting for him to finish up with a client. I didn’t tell him that I was going to talk to Celeste today because I wasn’t sure whether I was going to follow through with it or not. Now that I have, I’m excited to tell him the news.

I’m watching him work on his client’s tattoo. He’s hunched over with his tattoo machine buzzing away; he is completely in his element. His client is talking up a storm and somehow Acyn is able to carry on a conversation without missing a beat. Tattooing is like breathing for him. He could do it in his sleep. I admire the love and passion he has for his work.

I grab my bag and pull out my camera to capture a few shots of him.

“Would you mind if I take some pictures?” I ask his client.

“Not at all. But be sure to get my good side,” he says, grinning.

“Of course,” I say with a chuckle as I adjust my aperture and shutter speed on my camera.

Acyn doesn’t even look up from what he’s doing once I start taking pictures. He’s so used to me doing this when he’s with me that it doesn’t even faze him.

I take plenty of shots from different angles as he works. Acyn looks pensive most of the time, but as I watch him through my lens, he looks relaxed and happy. I capture a few shots of him laughing with his client. It makes me smile just watching him.

Riding my wave of inspiration, I wander around the shop taking pictures of things. There is a wall that is covered in art from floor to ceiling. Different intricate, framed, tattoo drawings from Acyn and the other tattoo artist line the wall.

I head outside to take pictures of the shop’s sign and the exterior. I am not sure what Acyn wants for pictures, but hopefully he likes what I’m taking. It wasn’t my intention today, but the inspiration hit me. I am in the middle of a picture when the guy who was just sitting with Acyn steps outside. I snap some more pictures of him standing in front of the shop, showing off his tattoo before he leaves. It’s hard to look at Acyn’s work and not want a tattoo for yourself. I would already have another one if I hadn’t promised Kyrell we could get one together.

He’s already booked our appointment, but he won’t be back in town until after my birthday. I find Acyn cleaning up when I go back inside to sit down and look at the pictures. I can’t wait to get these on my computer to edit them; I’m super proud of how they came out.

“Did you get some good shots?”

“Yeah.” I smile as I continue to flip through the pictures. “I think you’ll like them.” Acyn sits down next to me and puts his head next to mine as we scroll through the pictures.

“These are really good,” he says as I turn my head to look at him, not realizing how close we are.
